After a long break and restructuring how I want to do the comics, I finally finished episode 10, which is the finale for season 2.
Originally this was supposed to be episode 9, the images are named that and everything. Then I started working on the next episode which was to be Flare's Family. That one got finished a lot sooner, so I just switched them around. It'll also help so this can be more of a finale, similar to how episode 5 was bigger and ended season 1.
This is the biggest and most ambitious episode yet. It involves all the characters (sorry wind) splitting into two teams and battling for capture the flag. There are several battles in this, I'll admit they aren't the most cinematic. Still I put a lot of work into making this episode.
I'd like to think the quality is a big step up from previous episodes. I'm not comparing it to Flare's family since that was more of a special. The length really helps be able to tell a bigger story and have the characters work together. I probably could've made it even longer, but I would rather finish it up and start working on the next season.
The backgrounds in this are kind of repetitive since most of it takes place in the same area. There are several scenes with elements using their power and the background changes to their color. One of my favorite panels is Leaf on top of the wall, I think the lighting turned out well.
This was me trying out a variety of techniques to make their powers. Not all of them look good, and there's little consistency between them. I'm sure in time I will get better at it and be able to look back at this and laugh. I thought if I tried a hundred different fires, one of them would have to look cool.
Dialog is still not my strong suit. It's kind of cheesy, but I hope in a charming kind of way. I also acknowledge that the text boxes are not consistent and some have colored text for no real reason. I might try simplifying it and have all the same font to help with readability. I could still do unique textboxes and colors if I want to.
Element Comics is not dead, yet. I can't promise I'll make any more in a reasonable time, but I do have some ideas for season three to make it stand out more. It's been fun.
